| 24 Dec 2004 | Anonymous | Good picture; but this paragraph really bothered me: "Two side notes: One, in my story, the relationship between dark elves and regular elves is like that of Africans and Europeans, its just a skin pigmentation differences. Point two, alot of people like to say her ears are too long if she is only a half elf." There are more differences between Africans and Europeans then skin differences, but if I tell them I will probably be labaled a racist by all the ignorant people who frequent elfwood. Joshua R. Pinkas replies: "It has been my experience that the reason individuals are most often labeled as racist is because they are. I don’t know what exactly you had in mind when you said that there are differences between Europeans and Africans, but allow me to point out a few things. Physiologically there are no differences with the exception of amount of melanin pigment produced, and protein coding for hair, but even in these areas, some Europeans have similar features. Some Spanish individuals for example have very dark skin due to high levels of melanin. Genetically, there is about as much variance between an African and an European as there would be between two white guys living next-door to each other in Kansas. If you do not understand the concept of genetic variance I recommend you take a course or two in human genetics. More than likely you will have to take a lower level genetics course first, though a very small amount of human genetics may be found in your basic course. as far as intellectually, there are no statistically significant differences regarding potential. The singular place where you might be considered correct that there are differences would be culturally, or economically. However even in these areas, as great or possibly greater variance can be found among Europeans. The truth is that the only real statistically significant differences that can be generalized to the populations as a whole ,other than how someone looks, come as a direct result of environmental factors, this includes social, economic, and cultural factors. Thus they are not true differences because were you to say, switch babies, they would act as members of their society, not as members of there heritage. So there are no real differences. " | |
| 29 Dec 2004 | Joshua R. Pinkas | Because of a certain racist (from Englewood Colorado) repeatedly ranting about white supremacy on my page, I have removed the ability for non Elfwood members to comment. My apologies to those who are not members and would like to share legitimate comments, but I would rather not read a few legitimate comments than subject the masses to the kind of trash and misinformation that this individual represents. | |
| 15 Nov 2006 | Racist | ...Ever heard of the Bell Curve? Joshua R. Pinkas replies: "Yes, I am well aware of what a normal distribution is. You’d have to of dropped out of school at like the ninth grade to not understand that concept. I’m not exactly sure what your point is though, but I have a feeling it’s not based on statistical findings, but more some twisted anecdotal thoughts that you are attempting to place into a factual framework.
